Basketball season here in Texas for youth begins at the conclusion of the football season and spans winter, spring and into the summer months. In the winter, leagues and competitive tournaments begin. The YMCA and Neighborhood Sports are local basketball leagues in our area that offer outstanding programs for both boys and girls and they hold practices and play games right here in our neighborhoods. We love having these programs available, have good relationships with these organizations, and support them wholeheartedly.
For more competitive basketball, the Austin Vipers Basketball Club participates in the local leagues (i.e. Cedar Park Youth Basketball League) and enters teams into city-wide tournaments where competition is even more fierce. This allows for further development of skills and experience for those boys who seek greater competition.
For the Winter season, teams will be formed in early November for 4th, 5th and 6th grade boys (7th and 8th graders will play for the middle school teams) and 5th and 6th grade girls. We will hold try-outs in late October. There are typically 2 boy’s teams and 1 girl’s teams for each grade, which will be coached by our professional coaching staff. Teams play a 7 game season in the Cedar Park league along with 3-4 tournaments. To keep the players active during the season, we typically practice twice a week with practices starting in mid to late November.
